Plateau University Halts Academic Operations After Student Fatally killed by Gunmen

The administration of Plateau University, Bokkos, has decided to suspend academic operations for a period of 10 days following the tragic death of a second-year student at the institution.

The Registrar, Mr. Yakubu Ayuba, announced this development in Jos through a statement issued on Saturday, April 20. The incident occurred on Thursday night, April 18, when gunmen attacked Chikam, a nearby community to the university, resulting in the fatal shooting of the student identified as Dading Jordan.

The university previously announced a two-day mourning period to honor the slain student, according to Ayuba.

”Following the sad incident that occurred in Plateau University, Bokkos, and the surrounding communities, management has taken the painful decision to close the University for 10 days with effect from Friday, April 19.

”This decision is to allow the security situation to improve and reduce human risk in the university community.

”Accordingly, the ongoing first semester examinations are hereby suspended and will resume on Thursday, May 2,” he said.

The registrar said buses had been provided to convey students who may be stranded from the university to Barkin Ladi.
