Military Forces Eliminate 188 Terrorists and Detain 330 in One Week, Says DHQ

According to the Defence Headquarters (DHQ), troops engaged in internal operations throughout the nation have neutralized 188 terrorists, apprehended 330 individuals, and liberated 133 hostages in the Northern regions within the past week. 

Major General Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations, announced these developments in a statement issued on Friday, April 12th.

Additionally, Major General Edward Buba stated that troops apprehended 36 individuals suspected of engaging in oil theft activities, seizing stolen products valued at N637.7 million. 

These actions were part of ongoing efforts to combat criminal activities across the region, as highlighted in his statement issued on Friday, April 12th.

During the specified timeframe, troops diligently retrieved 270 various weapons and 5,083 assorted ammunition, underscoring their commitment to curbing illicit activities. Among the recovered arsenal were 122 AK47 rifles, 47 locally crafted guns, 47 dane guns, 24 automatic pump-action guns, eight homemade pistols, two single-barrel guns, one double-barrel gun, one hand grenade, and one improvised explosive device (IED). 

Additionally, ammunition seized included 2,129 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 1,686 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, 116 rounds of 9mm ammo, 133 rounds of 7.62 x 39mm ball ammo, 151 rounds of 7.62 x 39mm ammo, along with 619 live cartridges and 34 magazines. 

Moreover, they confiscated eight handheld radios, eight vehicles, 40 motorcycles, six bicycles, 50 mobile phones, and a sum of N610,210, among other items.

Meanwhile, in the Niger Delta region, military personnel uncovered and demolished 21 illegal refining sites, along with 51 dugout pits, 24 boats, 21 storage tanks, and four vehicles associated with illegal activities. 

The operation also led to the recovery of 28 cooking ovens, along with 672,350 liters of stolen crude oil and 90,530 liters of illegally refined automotive gas oil (AGO). These efforts demonstrate the military’s resolve to combat criminality and safeguard the region’s resources.

Furthermore, Major General Edward Buba highlighted the successful elimination of numerous terrorist leaders, reaffirming the military’s unwavering dedication to achieving victory in the ongoing battle against insurgency.
