Bobrisky sentenced to six months in jail without the possibility of paying a fine

In a ruling by Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court in Lagos, cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky, has been sentenced to six months in prison without the option of a fine.

The verdict, delivered on the morning of Friday, April 12, follows Bobrisky’s arraignment by the EFCC on April 5 on charges including Abuse of the Naira and Money laundering.

While the money laundering charges were dismissed by the court, Bobrisky admitted to the offense of Naira Abuse, leading to his conviction.

Initially remanded in EFCC detention in Lagos, Bobrisky awaited his sentencing after the court adjourned the hearing for judgment to April 9.

However, due to the public holiday for Eid-Fitri from April 9 to April 11, the court was unable to convene during that period. Despite the delay, Justice Awogboro’s decision to incarcerate Bobrisky for six months underscores the severity of the offense and the court’s stance on financial misconduct.
