NNL Sends Rovers FC to Eket and Levies Fines on Ekiti United and Coal City FC

The Nigeria National League (NNL) has imposed a banishment on Rovers FC from their usual home ground at UJ Eugene Stadium in Calabar, directing them instead to play at Eket Stadium located in Akwa Ibom State.

The ruling came in response to inadequate security measures observed during Rovers’ home match against Ekiti United. A disturbing incident occurred during the game as a Rovers FC supporter assaulted the Ekiti United goalkeeper.

Rovers FC faces a N1 million fine and must either identify the assailant responsible for the attack or demonstrate ongoing prosecution proceedings against them.

Additionally, Ekiti United has been fined N500,000 for prematurely ending the match. Both clubs are required to resume and complete the match at Eket Stadium.

The NNL has also suggested the removal of match officials and match commissioners who oversaw the game due to their subpar performance.

According to the memo, Rovers FC is being fined N1,000,000.00 for security breaches, assault, and encroachment, as outlined in article 16.2 of the rules framework. The club is mandated to identify the individual responsible for assaulting the Ekiti United FC goalkeeper or provide evidence of ongoing prosecution.

Furthermore, the NNL memo stipulates that Rovers FC must fulfill these requirements in order to comply with league regulations.

Coal City FC has been fined N1 million for their failure to present either a hard or soft copy of their club license during their away match against Stormers SC, according to a separate ruling.

Coal City reportedly admitted that they inadvertently left behind the license, resulting in the oversight during the away game.
