Former Chelsea Defender Predicts Portugal Victory in Euro 2024 if Ronaldo Is Absent

Frank Leboeuf, a former Chelsea defender, has asserted that Portugal stands a strong chance of winning Euro 2024 in the absence of their captain, Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo is poised to lead his country in the upcoming Euros set to take place in Germany this summer, with the goal of securing the trophy for a second time.

At 39 years old, the forward remains determined to guide Portugal to success, building upon his previous achievements on the international stage.

Notably, Ronaldo played a pivotal role in Portugal’s historic triumph during Euro 2016 in France, where he captained the team to their first-ever piece of silverware.

His leadership and exceptional performance were instrumental in securing victory, solidifying his status as a key figure in Portuguese football history.

Portugal are in Group F with Türkiye, Czech Republic, and a playoff qualifier.

Speaking to BetVictor, Leboeuf said:

“For me, Portugal are actually one of the contenders for this summer’s European Championships.

“I actually think they can win the Euros, but only if Cristiano Ronaldo doesn’t play.

“You cannot take away anything that Ronaldo has done for football just because he has gone to retire in the Saudi League. I want to thank him for taking the sport to another level, but there is an end for everyone.”
