Israeli airstrike targets Iranian consulate in Syria, resulting in the death of IRGC commander and six others.

Israeli warplanes destroyed an Iranian consulate in Damascus, Syria, resulting in the deaths of six individuals, including a high-ranking commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), according to Reuters.

According to a Lebanese security source cited by Reuters, one of the casualties was Mohammad Reza Zahedi, a senior commander in the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC). Iranian state television confirmed that several Iranian diplomats had been killed.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Tasnim news agency reported five casualties resulting from the Israeli strike, while Syria’s SANA state news agency indicated an unspecified number of deaths and injuries.

Israel has chosen not to comment on the incident, maintaining its standard practice. An Israeli military spokesperson stated, “We do not comment on reports in the foreign media.”

Israeli forces have intensified airstrikes in Syria targeting Lebanon’s Iranian-backed Hezbollah militia and Iran’s Guards since October 7, when Hamas, an Iranian-backed Palestinian group, launched an attack on Israel.
